Always amazing. I have celiac disease and so it can be difficult at times to find restaurants with lots of gluten free options. They have so many gluten free, celiac friendly options. IT IS SO NICE AND REFRESHING! They have gluten free options marked on their menu with what comes already gluten free and what they can make or substitute it with something to make it gluten free. Whenever I come down to visit Foco, this is where we go out to eat! Presentation and taste of the food is always great.

Uninspiring menu coupled with above average prices. The server had no idea what types of tequilas they had on hand nor the difference between silver, añejo, and Reposado tequila... If you have low expectations, this is the place for you. The management needs to do a better job educating the service staff.

Four of us went to Blue Agave for dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 26. We were greeted warmly at the front door and immediately escorted to a booth. We'd barely settled in when a waitress showed up with two baskets of WARM house made tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were crispy and yummy, and the salsa was fresh and bright and had just the right amount of heat. The fellas each ordered a beer (Horse and Dragon Whistle Blast Honey Brown - both said it was really tasty and paired very well with their entrees.) Entrees showed up quickly, and YOW, they were great. I had the Blue Agave Fish Tacos - easily the best taco I've ever had. I cannot say enough about how delicious they were: tempura battered tilapia, sweet adobo slaw, marinated cherry tomatoes. There were 3 large tacos as well as black beans (my favorites) and cilantro rice. This was a very large serving. Son ordered the steak burrito; he says the meat was super tender and great flavor. Again, it was a very large serving. Girl friend had the tacos en fuego, which also featured tender, well-seasoned beef, and having it set on fire was a fun and unexpected treat. Husband ordered the Stuffed Relleno with shrimp and bacon. He said the flavor was great, but it was a little spicier than he'd anticipated - the only thing on our table we can't rave about, but really, that's more about personal preference than food quality. We will definitely come back to Blue Agave and look forward to trying other items on the menu.

Came here on a Wednesday night and it was busy, but plenty of tables were available and we got seated right away. Our server was very nice and accommodating, answering questions about the menu and happy hour. I ordered the taco en fuego and it was delicious! It had a nice charred flavor and the steak was tender and tasty. I highly recommend this dish. My friends each got the blue corn enchilada entree and had good things to say about it. My friend and I tried the Sangria Swirl and it was delish -- too delish. I ordered a second and woke up with a headache. My other friend ordered the seasonal special, a Mojito-rita. She loved and it said she could drink them all day!

I don't normally write reviews for restaurants but I had to write one for this place. My wife and I stopped by earlier this week for dinner (we were vacationing on the area and stopped in on a whim because we were hungry for mexican food). Everything was fantastic! We had the traditional guacamole, the chicken tacos, and then the sopapilla filled with ice cream. It was so delicious that we drove all the way back from Estes Park the next night to go again despite adding 1.5 hours on to our trip to the airport. Night #2 we got the steak tacos and they were just as good if not better than the chicken ones. We got the guacamole again and we just love it. Highly recommend this place!

We loved the Blue Agava, especially the lobster mac & cheese! Had to give it a 4 because of the gazpacho. Not bad, just way to spicy and thick, more like salsa. We're used to more traditional gazpacho so would have appreciated a heads up.

Went to the Blue Agave last night. Hot day, I just wanted a salad. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad and it was disgusting. The tuna was mealy. Of course I expected frozen tuna, but this was awful. The salad greens were old and "dead", and to make matters worse, they were glued together with dressing. Salad greens should be fresh and lively -- these were just a gloppy mess. The menu said there were carrots on this salad. Yes there were -- sugary fried carrots. Now the fried part is an interesting idea, but they were so sweet. Yuck. The jicama sticks were the only decent thing on the plate. I know that this restaurant specializes in Mexican dishes. But if they're going to put something -- this salad for instance -- on their menu, they should put some care into it, even if it's not something a lot of people order. Otherwise, take it off the menu. My husband had a shrimp relleno, the same one he's ordered several times in the past, and it was a disappointment. The poblano wasn't completely roasted, and the filling wasn't creamy and flavorful, as he remembered it. Our server was pleasant and trying hard, but we waited a long time for our drinks because the bar was out of Margarita glasses. Yes the place was packed, but they need to buy some more glasses. The Mojita Rita was too sweet, and mostly ice. We ordered bowls of gazpacho and received cups. As far as that goes, a cup is plenty. The flavor was good; our server warned that it's spicy -- which I like -- but is just too hot for gazpacho, even Mexican-style. We asked for some sour cream to add to it, which helped a lot. The acoustics in the room with the bar are horrible. It's unbelievably loud -- hard to have a conversation with your table-mate, and yet you can hear other people's conversations from every direction. There were a couple of large groups seated in that space, in addition to all the booths. The noise was overwhelming. Not enjoyable at all. The place was packed, there was a 1/2 hour wait, so apparently a lot of people want to eat here. I've had good -- not outstanding -- meals here in the past, but after last night I won't be coming back.

My favorite food in Fort Collins since moving here in February. The Blue Agave Fish Tacos are amazing! For dessert, try the blondie split with a pal, you won't be disappointed!

Surprisingly good....nice twist to some Mexican dishes. Visited recently on a holiday, and while everything else in town was booked, I had no waiting time in Blue Agave. Good food, and outstanding service!!!

I really love this place. I have been here quiet a few times and I have yet to have a bad meal here. Service has always been great! They also have a Vodka (Spring 44) margarita, which I appreciate because I can't have tequila!

Service: we were well taken care of. I have allergies, they adjusted recommendations, separated out allergens so my husband could share, and when things weren't right, they fixed it. When I didn't like my dish the repeatedly asked if I wanted something else and when I declined, eventually comped it. Food. Meh. Others have said you can get same elsewhere. This is true. The salmon was fishy and dry. The tacos en fuego were, indeed, lit on fire, but we're bland and had absolutely no seasoning/spice. Luckily some of the sides were tasty (like the avocado & Serrano salsa). We were later told we could request a dish of peppers to truly jazz up this dish. Drinks. Still overpriced. The pomegranate martini tasted from a mix (syrupy sweet) 2 strikes. The service was truly terrific this time and the menu was updated but the food just didn't do it for us.

My companion and I have never had such watered-down drinks. Definitely won't be back.

Love this place! Great service, every time! Very attentive! Never an empty water glass. Love the atmosphere as well. Margs are great and very diverse.

  • Ras R.

OMG! The drinks are creative, the food is snappy and thoughtful. We just had the BEST SERVICE EVER. The vibe is relaxed (I always hope you leave your kids at home), adult, and upscale with a casual overtone. Food - wow. Wow.

Being a Arizona native I was hoping for a Sonoran food fix. Honestly, that's not what you will get here. I have to say it may not be authentic but it is delicious! YOU MUST GET THE LOBSTER STREET TACOS! wonderful service and drinks. Weather permitting sit on the patio.

    (5)
  • Clarissa D.

This place has excellent and eclectic Mexican food. Their skirt steak enchiladas are something I still lust over even months after I've been here. The vibe is cool and classy without being intimidating. I will always come back!

Great experience. Staff (Jake and Katlin) were awesome. Presentation was Excellant. Food was great and the sauces were exceptional. We were impressed that even the smallest detail was handled as part of their standard procedures. I had called for a reservation in the afternoon telling Katlin that it was my wife and I once a month date night. When we arrived Katlin knew that we wanted a quiet table for our special night. To our surprise Katlin passed that on to Jake and he addresses me by name and knew it was a special night for us. We have been to black tie restrauants spending a lot more money where the staff could not have cared less who we were or if it was a special night. We talked with the shift manager who was very receptive toj our compliments and suggestions. If you are looking for good food and a staff that goes beyond the normal, this is the place to go.

I was excited to try this restaurant and it exceeded my expectations! My husband and I went here for our anniversary and we were seated immediately (we went on a Wednesday night around 5:30). The margaritas are some of the best in Fort Collins and fairly priced. The food is definitely 4-5 star and the service was awesome. Overall I would say this is one of my new favorite places to eat in Fort Collins. I will definitely be returning for happy hour (1.50 off margs!), as well as special occasions. It is probably too pricey to eat at for a random dinner out, but it is has the best prices for the higher end restaurants in town. (Our bill was $60 for 4 margs, an app, and 2 taco dinners).

  • Cameron M.

The wait staff was excellent and our waitress was the best that I have been served by for quite some time. The chips were warm and delicious, the salsa was fresh and tasty! All four members of our party were very satisfied with the food (and we have some of those picky gf ers). The fish tacos were splendid and there was enough fish in them. Margaritas actually had tequila in them and were a good size. Definitely look forward to eating here again!

  • Brooke M.

I've been here twice and the food is great! Also, everything on their menu is or can be gluten free. I personally like gluten but I know people who can't eat it. I highly recommend this place and the staff is always very nice!

  • Jason W.

Fantastic! The fish and shrimp tacos were great. Our bartender Bradford is the man! Great service and food at a fair price. And right in the heart of Old Town.

Had the blackened scallops and the Mediterranean Pasta after starting with the Lobster Street Tacos. Finished with the Chocolate peanut butter cake. Also had an assortment of margaritas. Done with confidence. Everything was exceptional.

  • Dan U.

The Julio margarita was delicious. It was smooth with just the right amount of kick. The chips and salsa kept coming and the guac was good. It was a little too limey but still good. I ordered the Tacos en fuego which are served sizzling table side. My only issue is that they give you three tortillas but there's really only enough meat for two and a half. The decor is nice and there's even a nice outdoor patio to enjoy when the weather permits. I will definitely come back.

  • Stephani G.

Atmosphere was intrusive as it was loud, tv blaring competing with music. Food was horrible. Salsa was watered down chunky ketchup and chips were stale. Entrees were boring and without flavor. Service was friendly but slooooowwwww. We got the "focus on one table at a time" server and no one there has ever heard of pre-busing tables. Saw in Coloradoan it was rated poor for inspection/health/etc. The only positive piece was Chris the manager. He popped by with our check and asked how our experience was. We told him our honest take on things and he insisted on us giving them another try. We refused to accept anything free as we aren't that way ( just didn't like the place but we paid). He gave us a voucher for 35 bucks. Very kind. Maybe one summer evening we will sit on the patio and have a marg but no way on eating there. We both felt horrible that evening. Our stomachs weren't happy either. Thanks Chris for your wonderful management skills. You were the best part.

Great restaurant with an excellent and friendly staff. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Absolutely love the chicken tacos and their made to order guacamole. The patio seating with the fire pit is fantastic if the weather is nice enough. Have yet to have a bad experience here!

  • Rosalie G.

This is my third visit at lunchtime and while the food is tasty, the service has been extremely slow every time. The prices are slightly high for what you get, especially for the guacamole. The shrimp salad is good, but the dressing is a bit overly spicy. The warm thin salty corn chips are addictive. I wish they served a wild caught fish instead of tilapia. Overall okay, but the service is too slow.

I ate here for the first time with a friend last night and I can't WAIT to take my husband back to try it! I rarely get that excited about food! We had the chili-lime edamame appetizer, and the Blue Agave fish tacos which were fabulous with a hint of horseradish which was unexpected but amazing! I thought it was super reasonably priced too for the quality of the food. A true Fort Collins gem!

  • Peeyoosha H.

We went here for a romantic dinner, ambiance is very upscale & intimate. Outdoor seating looks just awesome with blue flame as centerpiece, but we found that difficult in winters of Colorado. Although menu is diverse, I was not a big fan of food. I would say Nice place to hang out & enjoy drinks, but not for full dinner!

Quite delicious. Not particularly Mexican food but very delicious food with a Mexican twist. Try the Lobster Street Tacos and one of their great margaritas!

I love going to new places with friends, so when Blue Agave showed up on my radar because of Great Plates, I jumped at the opportunity. I went with two other people on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty busy. We got a table by the door and received chips and salsa almost immediately. The salsa is a little weird, kind of like a peppery marinara almost, but we weren't exactly expecting huge levels of authenticity. Our server stopped by for drink orders, and that's when our night really started to become fun. Because Kevin, our server, was hilarious. He was friendly and attentive, he was knowledgeable about the menu and we never felt neglected even though it was busy the whole time we were there. Even better, the food was actually good. I really liked the mango fish tacos especially. And the fried cornbread stuff for dessert was really amazing. I will definitely be going again.

This was our first visit to agave, and we will definitely be going back. The food was spectacular, the drinks were epic, and the service was awesome. The restaurant was clean, and the atmosphere was perfect. I had the seared scallops and they were cooked just right, with the most amazing sauce and perfect whipped potatoes. Great night out!

Everything was so fresh. Taste was perfect balance of being flavorful and still delicate. Thumbs up on the house margarita. Atmosphere is tasteful and upscale. Staff was friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend southwest pork medallions and mango fish tacos.

Ok food, definitely way over priced. So many cheap authentic places that are much more worth your money (and more delicious). Wasn't terrible though and service was decent.

We had dinner last night before going to the theater at the Lincoln Center. We are from California so we may have a different expectation about Mexican food that most here. The food was mediocre at best. The shrimp and lobster enchiladas were very, very disappointing with no lobster and shrimp from a can! The service was good and the atmosphere was busy and hip. The drinks were imaginative. Our CA Mexican expectations were not met by the food and that would have been fine except that the Blue Agave pretends to be something different. It is but it was not good! Ellen

What a great addition to the old town food scene! We went with a larger group on a Friday night, they were on a wait, which is to be expected on a Friday night, we didn't really wait long at all. They have a very efficient host staff, bartenders were attentive while we were waiting for our table. Food was awesome! Try the lobster street tacos, so delicious. My husband and I both had steaks I had the signature asada, super flavorful and both of our steaks were cooked perfectly. Food was very fresh and definitely from scratch. Save room for dessert their coconut blondie with rum caramel is amazing!

Went to Blue Agave last night for dinner. I was very excited at getting an addition to the old town dinning scene. Unfortunately I found a restaurant struggling for an identity. Given that the restaurant is located in the bottom of the art museum. I expected some linkage. Instead I got a mix of old Mexico wood furniture, Incan icons, stainless steel pillars, sports bar like TVs and old top 40s background music. Very confusing as to what ambience they were shooting for. I must say that the competition between the sports audio on tv and the top 40s music became very annoying. The menu was pretty ordinary. Modern Tex Mex with an emphasis on steak based dishes. We had the blue tortilla enchiladas and the signature asada. I can not say anything negative about the food itself but neither can I say there was anything memorable. Basic items served with white rice and black beans. I did have higher expectations given the price point. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. However the bar staff that delivered the drinks did not pay attention. He spilled a portion of the wine down the glass after pouring from the carafe. He mad an attempt to wipe the step and disappeared leaving a pool of wine under the glass base. Suggest the owners need to step back and decide what they want to be then dive in. More memorable food and clear ambience. There are too many other options in the area not to have a unique offering.

Yum!!!!! Great friendly service! Try the black and white nachos---amazing!! Came here with a friend who has major gluten allergies and cannot dine out at many places. Wait staff and manager repeatedly checked on us, verified ingredients, etc to ensure her safety and health with the food. It was a great experience and wonderful place for lunch or dinner. Will be returning over and over!!!

Nice atmosphere and really good margaritas. But the ahi tuna burger was just awful- careful what food you order here!

My first experience at Blue Agave was excellent. Great good, good margs, tons of healthy options, Amazing service and we were able to get patio seating. The second time we had four adults two kids, one was an infant. They don't do reservations for patio seating-boo! When we got there on a Saturday night they were pretty busy. We told them we wanted patio seating and we're willing to wait the 30-45 min wait for the patio. The wait was easy my daughter had a blast playing with the fountains. However, when our buzzer went off they said they had a booth waiting inside for us. We told them we had patio seating and had waited 45 min for it. The girls at the host stand replied with "well there's like a lot of like drunk people out there like" ... We were thinking sweet we'll fit in perfect. But they were pretty solid on us not sitting patio seats and had already sat the tables they would have placed us at. It's a nice fall evening and we want a damn patio seat, is that too much to ask? It's Saturday there's drunk people everywhere?! I was pretty insulted that they felt it was in our "best interest" to sit inside because we had kids. I would have felt differently if they would have informed us that they were seating us inside due to lack if seating outside. We did wait 45 min, you couldn't walk outside and inform us you were moving us? Terrible communication, we ended up not eating there that night. And for terrible customer service they get a three star... for now...

Terrific food, great ambiance, and friendly service. The Blue Agave is a welcome addition to Old Town. It's spacious, hip, and most importantly, its menu offerings are diverse and delicious. I have had the pleasure of dining here many times now and have enjoyed all of my meals. The chipotle shrimp tacos were scrumptiously delightful as were the mango fish tacos, both served with flavorful black beans and cilantro rice. The seafood soup is my new favorite go to dish. It's light but filling, and the broth is nicely seasoned. If I come here for dinner, I almost always get the stuffed sopapilla with ice cream for dessert. It's a treat that everyone should experience. The wait staff was pleasant, and the manager checked on us on each of our visit to make sure that we were enjoying our experience.

My first experience at The Blue Agave was excellent. I sat at the bar with Bryn as my server/bartender. Her service was attentive without being intrusive. Coin style margaritas; very on point. Tart sweet and very quaffable. The sauce base on my plate of coconut shrimp made the appetizer what it was, a familiar dish with a very unique twist. The carne asada steak I ordered was a little undercooked for my medium temp request but Bryn was quick to note the color of my steak (2-3 bites) and offered a new order. Bottom line: My initial impressions were very positive and I will return. For those of you looking for traditional Mexican, don't be ignorant and leave negative reviews; check out a true taqueria instead. For those of you looking for a fine dining tex/mex experience, I highly recommend stopping in.

Although slightly overpriced, I love Blue Agave. I usually go for lunch and order the mango fish tacos. So delicious! The mango salsa has so many flavors! Also order the mango guacamole. I have also ordered the lobster mini taco appetizer and it was also delicious. You won't be disappointed. The atmosphere is spacious with great decor.

Finally! Great Mexican food in Fort Collins. I've grown tired of all the other places that all have the same average food (not bad, just average). Blue Agave has fantastic and interesting food and a great atmosphere. It's a bit more expensive, but I'll pay a bit more to have quality food and a great experience. Thank you, Blue Agave!

Was a little loud where we were seated. Service was good, staff friendly. Avocado tacos were amazing, drinks (the jalapeño marg impressed my hard to impress husband)- not somewhere I will go frequently because I prefer more quiet and intimate seating and it seems a little bit like this is very inconsistent, as it is so busy...

I was really looking forward to trying Blue Agave tonight, as I've heard positive things about it. On first impression upon walking in, there are TVs on every wall. I was not expecting this, as it seemed as though it would have a classier atmosphere. We asked to be seated outside because of this. The outside seating was nice. There was quite a bit of confusion about which server was supposed to be taking care of us. We ended up with 4 different servers, and the service was mediocre at best. The food? Meh. The tortilla chips are clearly from a bag. They tasted like Tostitos or Lays. The tortillas were also clearly from a package. The food was fair. It was definitely not fresh. I ordered a dish that had corn on it, and the corn was canned corn. I was just really unimpressed with the quality of the food. We were really disappointed with our experience and the food was poor enough quality that we will not return, nor will we recommend others visit Blue Agave.

We decided to try the place on a Monday night after reading the Yelp reviews and were excited at first but ultimately, it did not hit the nail on the head with any part of the meal or experience. I'm going to caveat my review with two disclosures. First, I was born and raised about 100 miles from the Mexican border in Arizona so I'm really particular about Mexican food. It better have flavor and spice or I am sorry, it is Americanized "Tex-Mex" and therefore most likely going to be bland. Also, my wife and I are world travelers who have experienced great dining all over the world so no restaurant is going to get 5 stars from me unless the place is firing on all cylinders and the food is far beyond normal in quality. The dining room was clean, modern and inviting. The hostesses were friendly and seated us quickly. Our server was also very nice and tried to accommodate but ultimately the restaurant needs get through some growing pains before it warrants any more stars in the rating. When we sat down we were brought chips and salsa. My wife sort of liked the salsa, I thought it was ketchup with some veggies in it. No flavor, no spice. I asked if they had any spicy salsa and the server said she'd have them make some up for me. It never arrived and eventually she came out with an entire slightly diced habenero for me to mix with the bland salsa. Huh? She said she was sorry and that it was like herding cats in the back. Um, no. That fails on a number of levels. I tried to dice the habenero up finer with my butter knife and the band that holds your napkin together (we had no plates of any kind) but did not succeed. She saw me and brought me a plate and a steak knife, which due to the serration was not able to cut the habenero either. I just gave up at that point and ate the ketchup salsa. When margaritas were mentioned I explained that I like a true to form simple margarita on the rocks made with fresh limes not margarita mix. She assured me the Blue Agave margarita was great! Nope. I know she is probably instructed to push the house specialties but it really isn't that good. Or at least the one I had wasn't. My wife liked the Sangria. We looked at the extensive menu for several minutes and I couldn't help but notice that there were two dishes listed as Airline Chicken______. We had to ask what that meant. The server informed us that back in the day on planes, you got a very nice meal and often the chicken had one wing tucked under the breast and that is where the name came from. I'm sorry but that is a terrible idea. No one under 60 remembers when you dressed up to fly and got actual food. I remember smoking on planes but not good food. So that leaves me with the image of a small tray with crappy airline food on it. Sorry. Staying far away from that. There seemed to be too many items and in my experience that can often be an indicator that they don't have their processes down pat yet. Look at all the finer restaurants. They rarely have this many items because they focus on quality of the items they do serve above a large variety that is poorly done. We both settled on steaks for an entree and we were hoping for some flavor, quality, spice, anything. My wife got the Steak Rojo and didn't finish hers or want to take the rest home. I ordered the Angus Ribeye. I know, I know. Steak typically should come from a steak house but I've had some great Spanish, Southwestern and Puerto Rican prepared steaks and was hoping for the same. I was severely disappointed. I normally get steaks cooked medium well but I got this one medium and would have hated to have seen what a medium well steak looked like here. There was no pink in the middle and no flavor to boot. The steak was chewy and tasted cheap. It was served with too much Jalapeño bacon au jus which was little more than a brown flavorless water, not even a hint of Jalapeño or bacon, rolling around in the bottom of the plate. It was very difficult to eat without splashing it around. It soaked into my potatoes and made the fried onions really soggy too. Would have been advisable to put in a side dish for dipping rather than that mess. Then the bill came. $60 for two people and there wasn't any part of it I would recommend beyond the chips. Bottom line in my opinion: If you think the Rio has good food, you will like this place too.

We stopped here for lunch this past Sunday. Staff was scarce but once seated it was decent service. Hubby had the Blackened Scallops -- he loved them!! A+ on those. Daughter had the Grilled Mahi Mahi -- she loved it!! And it was a healthy piece of fish, too. Not too salty or over-seasoned. The asparagus was too spicy, however, on the tips (the best part). It's a shame to over-season a good tasting vegetable. I had the Vegetable Enchilada. (This should be re-named Artichoke Dip & Cream Cheese Enchilada.) Not a good choice if you are expecting vegetables. Not only did they not put the cheese on the side, but inside was a creamy mess with one spinach leaf in it and some very small chunks of unidentifiable vegetable bits. They were very good about taking it back and making an actual vegetable enchilada for me, however. The second try was better, although it was still pretty light on actual vegetables and they still didn't put the cheese on the side. The blue corn tortilla was quite tasty; it's a shame they drown its taste in sauce and cheese. The black beans were salty but edible. I did not enjoy my lunch nearly as much as my lunch-mates. We will probably give them another try; this time I will order their fish tacos with a lettuce wrap -- and NO cheese!

We stopped here for a Mother's day meal. Although compact, this was a great little place to take the Family. Having one vegetarian and one with gluten allergies things can be complicated at times. There were no problems and a considerable list of choices for both. My hope is that the tables and chairs are changed, to a more elegant design, at some point. They seem to cheapen the place.

By the looks of this old town spot you may think the beautiful museum upstairs may have brought some class to this wanna be upscale Mexican place. To be honest the food was tasty. Seasoned and prepared well, however, the way they have multiple people running around bringing out drinks and food is comical. Up to five different people running drinks to tables where they were not sure who receives what. It was funny to watch them ask the diners, "did you order this". Don't expect to get your drink before dinner and to order another drink, well it will not reach the table until you are finished eating. Off the wall drinks that don't make sense. Cheap napkins and sliver ware. Chips tasted like they came from a bag.

This place is pretty good overall but I judge a place pretty heavily on their guacamole which left a lot to be desired. The chips were super salty (which is funny because one reviewer commented they were not salty- seriously the saltiest restaurant tortilla chips I have ever had and I even like salt...) and the guacamole had an abnormally creamy texture. El Monte Guac has them beat for sure. But my chicken lime tacos were amazing and sopapillas were good enough. I would go back for sure but at the same time was not blown away; probably 3.5 stars if I could give half stars.

Outdoor patio ambiance is misleading. Their food does not match up with their image - I expected more. The food wasn't bad - just pricey for common mid-grade ingredients which lacked a signature flavor. The fajitas tasted the same as Chili's and their salsa was reminiscent of a pizza/marinara sauce. Everyone loved their drinks though.

An excellent new restaurant in Old Town!! The margaritas were excellent and very affordable, and the food was incredible! I enjoyed the steak burrito and all ingredients were super fresh and the steak was incredibly tender and flavorful. This restaurant is definitely worth the experience and the atmosphere is perfect for Fort Collins!!

Showed up for a late lunch... about 2pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was very nice, inviting, and interesting. Really neat location. We were greeted and seated right away, then chips and salsa showed up shortly thereafter. I've read some of the previous reviews explaining how the chips were "house made" or "...thin and crispy". Perhaps they ran out, but the chips we were served were not "thin", or "house made". In fact, they looked exactly like the Tostitos I bought from the grocery store the other day. The salsa provided was standard. We ordered the Salsa Trio which was okay except the Pico was really showing it's age.... maybe left over from the day before? C'mon, Pico isn't hard to make fresh is it? I had the Signature Asada. The flavors were good, however the rice was either old or undercooked or both -- lots of hard grains. Could've used more food on the plate for $20. Wife had the fish tacos. Same thing went for her rice ...lots of hard grains. The cabbage in the tacos was really wilted; like the Pico it was old. The amount of fish dispersed into the tacos was dismal. She probably had about 3 actual bites of fish (total) among the three tacos. I realize that this dish is (only) $12.50, but geesh! She conceded that the fish she did get to taste was good. Fairly disappointed with this meal, especially considering the comparatively higher price paid for Mexican food. Based on this single experience I could not recommend this restaurant to a friend.

I was excited to try this new eatery in Old Town, given all the great things I had heard about it. My husband told me he had the best fish tacos ever when he had eaten here a few weeks earlier. We walked in without reservations and were happy that there was no waiting. It's noisy with an excited feel inside, a bit tight and on the dark side. The chips and salsa were good. I like a spicy salsa. The service was fine, but not great. We waited longer than expected to order, and then we waited quite a long time to receive our food. I had the Ahi Tuna salad, and perhaps my expectations were a bit high due to the buzz around this place, but I was disappointed. The Ahi Tuna was lightly seared, sushi grade, and fine, but the dressing on the salad was heavy without any subtlety. The Ahi Tuna salad dressing at The Island is much better. My husband had the steak salad, again fine meat, but heavy, nothing special, dressing. The portion size was very good. We will be back to try some of their other fare, as salads didn't seem to be their best options.

Fun and interesting menu with an interesting twist on Mexican food. Free chips and salsa which the servers keep coming. The appetizers are good and the tacos are memorable. Service is also fun and friendly. This is a nice addition to the Fort Collins area! It's definitely worth a try.

Several places have tried to pull off the up-scale Mexican cocktail restaurant downtown and failed, I have to say this place is pretty satisfying on all fronts so far.

I think the food is amazing. Anyone looking for authentic Mexican food should probably go to Mexico. But if you are looking for excellent Americanized Mexican food I would highly recommend going to Blue Agave. The chips come out warm, the salsa is delicious, the black and white nacho appetizer is one of a kind, and even though I don't drink, I keep hearing great things about the margaritas. It is a new restaurant so there will be minor errors as they work through all the kinks. My experience so far has definitely been a 5 star. I would highly recommend the Signature Asada, the Kona crusted NY strip and the pan seared sea scallops. All of which I have had and truly enjoyed. One thing I noticed about a lot of the bad reviews is that they are way too detailed.... meaning that those people don't have lives and they simply require everyone to live up to their boring expectations. If you have a bad experience just let the staff know and let one of the fix it. The servers that have taken care of me all were genuine and had a great attitude.

This place was great, definitely our new favorite in Fort Collins!!! It was classy without the snobby factor. Our server, Patrick, was awesome. He was down to earth, honest, and have great suggestions. We ordered the two entrees he suggested and they were AMAZING. They made a small mistake with our appetizer and they bought it for us because of the "inconvenience". The margs are great! Best chips and salsa in town. Hands down the best brownie around... We will definitely be back as soon as possible!

Went here with friends for a mid week lunch. It was so loud near the front that we asked about moving to another area. The waitress said "well, it' going to fill up. (There were only 2 seated tables in the dinning are that time, but there was a crowd in the bar.) She said something to effect that the place would fill up and the noise would continue no matter where we sat. Then she offered to turn the music down....The 5 of us looked at her strange and in near unison said "There's music?! Really? I can't even hear it." We did move to the back of the restaurant after we asked again, getting the same reply about the place filing up as well as a comment that she (waitress) would mention to the management that we thought it was too noisy and they needed to think about some sound abatement,... and when we stood up. We could hear the music once we were in the far back of the restaurant. Thank goodness the TV sound was off. Why do dining establishments put in TV's anyway? it is such a distraction to enjoying the food and the company. We nearly decided to go to another place to eat, but time would have been a factor at that point. It took quite some time to get our entrees, despite ordering promptly. The food was good for the most part. If you are looking for something spicy this isn't the place. We were informed that nothing on their menu is particularly spicy. The chips were crisp, fresh but a bit too salty, and the salsa...meh. The food, when it finally arrived, was beautifully presented. I had the ahi tuna salad which was delicious, I would have liked a bit more wasabi to dip the fish in but it was adequate. No one else made much comment about their meal, which is unusual for this group. My personal take is that the food is a bit over priced, but I seem to be finding that at many of the new restaurants in Fort Collins, do that could just be me. Oh, and be aware..They don't take checks. That is fairly common in a college town though.

Yes, thank you! Or should I say 'gracias!' Finally, some really great Mexican food in FC. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I've only been there twice, so a little more data-collection is required before adding a 5th star. Also I think the portions are a bit too modest--more on that later. In the meantime, let me just say I was so pleasantly surprised by this place. It's loud - know that up front. If you're not in the mood for noisy dining try to hit it on off-hours. As much as I dislike like loud restaurants, the food and service were so good that I was willing to raise my voice (considerably) to communicate with my dinner companions. I had a delicious chicken dish and also the marg - the house marg(?) was phenomenal! I am a small person with a moderate appetite. I was actually not full the first time I was there. The second time I was there I ordered the same chicken dish (and marg), this time with sides of rice and beans, which was perfect for me in terms of the amount of food. So my minor criticism is that the portions seem a bit too modest and I think rice and beans should be auto-sides on any Mexcian food dinner plate. But the food itself was really delicious - chicken was well-spiced, tender, perfectly cooked. Marg was outstanding and the ambiance, while loud, was festive. On both visits we got very good service too - always a nice bonus. I'll be going back soon to do more data collection so more to come!

Extremely slow service but knowledgeable staff. Had the Top Shelf Enchiladas which is supposed to be lobster and shrimp. It was all shrimp and two small pieces of lobster--one in each enchilada. The filling was bland and the sauce overpowering. Would recommend the Pineapple Marg. Not too sweet with pineapple infused tequila.

Hands down my new favorite Fort Collins restaurant. I stopped in for lunch and instantly loved the decor, the general feel and the warm greeting. The menu is large and interesting. We had to come back the next night for dinner. Tried a burger, shrimp tacos, fish tacos, asada, Kona crusted strip steak and a variety of margs. It was all just fabulous! The service was outstanding as well. Can't recommend enough!

A tad expensive but very tasty. I would've liked more cocktail options rather than being pointed to a margarita. I don't like it that they don't post marg prices on the menu. Annoying. We tried the coconut shrimp and house fish tacos. The food was really good. The tap list is barely on par considering Fort Collins standards.

Blue agave is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Fort Collins. They serve many tasty margaritas, including my favorite, the muy macho jalapeño marg (beware it is spicy). My one complaint regarding the margaritas is they always seem heavy on the ice and light on the content. As far as food goes, I can not think of words to describe how much I love the mango fish tacos! Yum! For lunch you receive two tacos and three for dinner. The coconut shrimp tacos are also delicious. Beware Friday and Saturday evenings unless you have a reservation.

We've been here several times now, and the service has been consistently good. It does tend to get crowded on a Saturday night, but that's to be expected. The mango fish tacos are the best thing I've had here, and they are fresh and tangy and wonderful. They make a fantastic "mojito rita" and a jalapeño marg that will curl your toes. The atmosphere is casual, but you can bring the sophistication and you wouldn't be out of place. Recommend.

My husband took me to Blue Agave tonight to celebrate my birthday. The food was exceptional and so was the service. This is the third time I've been to Blue Agave and I've always had a perfect experience. It's my favorite restaurant in downtown Fort Collins. Great atmosphere, great food, good people and great location. Will definitely return to Blue Agave in the future. A+++

My fiance and I absolutely love Blue Agave! We've eaten there several times and have never been disappointed! The last time we visited we were pleased that they had a tequila flight where we were able to try three different Casa Noble tequilas. The bartenders were very informative about the different tequilas and were very friendly and attentive on a very busy Labor Day Monday. The lobster street tacos are my favorite appetizer and the mango guac is also a must to accompany their chips and salsa! As for entrees the fish tacos are all fabulous as is the asada. Oh, and the margaritas are yummy. I recommend the orange margarita without the sugared rim!

Nice, clean and trendy restaurant in downtown Fort Collins. It's in the basement of the old Postal Service building, now the Fort Collins Museum of Art, and is beautifully decorated. I stopped in for late dining and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the House Salad and it was delicious. It was topped with Jacima, which was new to me but crisp and delicious, with an apple-like consistency. The Adobo vinaigrette with pecans was great topping. For the main course I went with the Carne Asada. It was juicy, cooked well, and served with a delicious Shrimp and Lobster Enchilada. This meal would have gone great with a nice red wine. Service was great; my server Anna was very responsive. In all, a great downtown dining experience that gives Rare and The Kitchen a run for their money.

This place has really gone downhill. It's such a shame because it started off with so much promise. All the cocktails are still strong and tasty, it is hard to mess up Don Julio after all, the wait staff and entrees veer towards mediocrity now. On my last visit the chips were stale the salsa and steak flavorless. The pokey appetizer was tasty and the seafood soup was good. However my girlfriends entree, the chicken breast, was just as flavorless as my skirt steak.

Delicious and innovative food, great drinks, cozy atmosphere, great location, friendly and attentive staff... but a little overpriced in my opinion. Hence the four stars. My husband had a grilled chicken sandwich and I the tacos as lettuce wraps. We both loved our choices. We shared a martini sampler. All were fairly good but the Presidente stood out the most. The outside seating consists of fire-lit tables. If it were warmer we would've eaten outside because it looked like great fun. Our waitress Elizabeth was wonderful. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We were out of towners checking out the city and she went above and beyond with recommendations and advice for things to do. We'll definitely be back when in Fort Collins.

Yummy! I ate the chicken breast which was served with jalapeño bacon a jues (sp?), side of mashed taters and asparagus. It was very good and filling! The husband got the fuego steak tacos, it came out on fire...literally. More of a fajita setting than tacos, but he said it was good nonetheless! I rated a 4 star and would come back, oh yeah...margarita was good too!!

We've now been here a few more times and they have drastically improved. Service is always excellent and the food is outstanding. I can never say "no" to one of their yummy drinks either. It's hard not to spend about $50 for two people here when ordering drinks so we don't go too often. Still, it's an easy place to go to even with our little girl who loves their beans and rice.

This restaurant easily makes my top 10 restaurants list. The food is so good; I got the gluten free mango tacos and my mom ordered the gluten free scallops. Blue Agave has a fantastic gluten free menu and I'm sure they can fit any diet. Our meals were very flavorful. The salsa in chips and salsa was a bit spicy but it was also very flavorful! Also, I highly recommend the black and white nachos. They are the perfect amount of appetizer for two or three or even a full meal for one. Service was also prompt and accommodating, I will hopefully be visiting again!

I am finally writing a review for this place. Not because I had doubts, just been busy. Don't judge! This place is fantastic! Upscale décor, great patio tables with romantic centerpieces that are amazing during warm weather. A good selection of Tequila but if that is not your thing, they have a full bar. The space is pretty large with lots of tables. The only thing I don't like is that the TV next to the bar is on a side wall so you have to turn sideways to watch it. But, that's my only gripe with the place. You absolutely MUST order the Tunarita! I tried other things here as well, haven't gone wrong yet. But definitely, definitely, definitely, the Tunarita!

My friend and I came for happy hour but ended up missing it by 7 minutes. Oh well, our bad plus alcohol just didn't sound good to me. What did sound good were chips and salsa. The chips were salty, thin and crispy which is just how I like them. The salsa was a bit funky but good too. It had bigger chunks of onions in some parts and totally smooth in others which I wasn't a fan of but I possibly detected chili powder?? Interesting flavor. For my main I ordered the tempura avocado tacos. Fried avocado is a favorite of mine. Tonight's was quite good albeit a tad on the greasy side. A small pet peeve of mine is tortillas that come single layer. Halfway through my taco the tortilla split in half and the fillings spilled out. The side of beans and rice was quite good. My friend ordered the black and white nachos. I tried a bite and did not at all like them. The flavors were way too heavy and the platter had about a pound of cheese on it. The spinach center was also too greasy for my taste. The service was outstanding and our waiter was wonderful. Overall he gets five stars and the food three.

The atmosphere's nice, but I wasn't too impressed with the menu. Prices are about 20% too high for the quality of food. I ordered the southwest crab mac and cheese. I expected it to have at least some sort of contrast to the flavor and texture, but all that was in it was penne pasta with crab cheese sauce. The menu also said chipotle, something I didn't taste much in the dish. There were no toppings to crust it and no bits of anything else to offer a contrast to the cheesy, salty, seafood taste. I would have sacrificed half of my noodles for a side that offered some freshness and crunch. My wife got the warm spinach salad with salmon. The house-pickled cucumbers were a good idea, but just didn't quite fit with the sesame-crusted salmon. If you're just out for a fun night on the town, not a bad spot, but if you're looking for amazing food, you might be disappointed.

Great service and good food. My family ordered the chili lime skirt steak, stuffed relleno, steak burrito, and angry burger...everyone really enjoyed their food. Fresh ingredients and nice atmosphere. Our server, Tracy, was very attentive and provided many details about the menu choices. Well done!

Wow. Just, wow. We ended up here at the recommendation of our hotel, and all I can say is Thank God. Let's just get into it... Ambiance: Relaxed with a touch of upscale. Cozy. Romantic. The website says "Southwestern". In Atlanta this often means Tex-Mex. This was more refined. Food: -I wasn't expecting the salsa to be this tasty. This had layers of flavors. I was sad when we reached the bottom. -Mango guacamole. This is when it dawned on me - this place is serious about food. Nice chunks of avocado, with mango and queso fresco. We wanted to finish it off, but we waited, because if this was a sign of things to come, good things were on the way. -Asada beef and seafood enchilada. This was recommended by the server and for good reason. Perfectly cooked steak, tender and juicy, with a southwest zing of seasoning. Seafood-studded cheesy filling in a corn tortilla.*STAR OF THE SHOW* I swapped out my side of rice for their sweet potato gratin. Layers of thin potato baked with goat cheese. YUM. This whole plate just kept punching with flavor explosions. Each bite was a revelation. -We were stuffed, but couldn't pass up dessert. I got a blondie. A crunchy outside held a chewy inside, coconut threads and caramel goodness. All that was left was delicious carnage. Service: Excellent. Made great recommendations, kept the drinks full, meals timed perfectly. Overall: A necessary food experience. A must go.

I've been to Blue Agave twice now. Both times my experience was very good. If you get a spot on the patio facing College, I'd up the stars to 5 for an awesome atmosphere. On the first trip, my group and I did snag outdoor seating and just chilled after The Taste of Fort Collins with drinks. Very relaxing, great service and I was happy with the salad I ordered. (None of my group ate much besides the chips and salsa since we'd been sampling dishes at the taste. My second visit was with my hubby. We arrived just after 6:00 on a Monday and were unable to get out on the patio. Bummer! But the decor inside we pleasing if just a bit loud. We ordered the mango guacamole which we both devoured readily! Delicious! I also ordered a blue agave margarita, on the rocks. Normally I get frozen - this drink seemed a bit heavy on the ice, and light on the 'Rita. Another nearby restaurant makes fantastic margs; this one didn't really compare. For our meal, my hubby ordered a steak burrito and was satisfied with it, though I was surprised to see that it didn't include a side of rice or anything. I ordered the mango dish tacos in a lettuce she'll rather than a tortilla. I was thrilled that our server informed me I could order them grilled not battered and fried as presented in the menu description. The lettuce "shells" were fresh and crisp and my fish tacos were yummy. My food came with a side of the cilantro rice which was light and flavorful. Good meal! Good service. I'm sure we'll return to further explore the menu, but I'll always hope for the patio spot!

What a great addition to the downtown dining scene. Blue Agave Grill is nestled around the NE corner of the Fort Collins Museum of Art on the basement level. Its L-shaped dining area makes for copious seating without feeling cavernous. The decor, dominated by rich chocolate browns, coppery metalics, and aqua hues reminiscent of the namesake blue agave, is tastefully vibrant -- with sunlight streaming in from ample windows it felt cheerful during a quiet lunch with a friend, and I'm sure it will make for a lively atmosphere after dark for the bar-hoppers. After oohing and aahing over our meals (yeah, yeah, I'll get to that in a minute) my lunch companion asked how I would categorize the food. The best I could come up with was Southwestern-inspired seasonal cuisine. I wouldn't say "Southwestern" alone lest you confuse this with that everything-smothered-in-green-chile Tex-Mex style (as apparently Yelp has, since there is a category for "Tex-Mex" but not "Southwestern"). Think more along the lines of what you would find at the more innovative restaurants in Santa Fe. So, the menu. I had real difficulty in making my selection, since there were too many things that sounded so good. This is one of those rare places where you could go out with your meat-loving, vegetarian, and/or gluten-free friends and everyone would be happy. In the end, I selected an appetizer and soup -- the black and white nachos and gazpacho. My lunchmate chose the grilled salmon. The black and white nachos include lobster, shrimp, beans, cheese, and surely some other deliciousness that I am forgetting. They are served as about a dozen individually-composed chips arranged around a generous portion of guacamole atop some sort of crisped greens -- kale, or perhaps spinach? So all of the chips had the perfect portion of all of the toppings, and no soggy chips. A winner in my book. The gazpacho was among the best straight-up gazpachos I have had. All very fresh and refreshing as you would expect, but with a really good peppery kick. The bowl portion was huge -- too much for me to finish when paired with about half of the nachos. I had a taste of my companion's salmon, and almost regretted not getting an entree. The salmon itself was served medium rare (the staff do warn you, so if you prefer it cooked well-done I suppose that's your prerogative) and had a perfect amount of char-grilled smokiness. It came with a mango-lime sauce that was surprising in a good way -- counter to my expectations it was not overly sweet; rather, it was a nice balance of sweet and tangy where the lime really shone through. Delicious. The dessert menu the day we were there ranged from the expected (sopapillas) to the intriguing (jalapeno cornbread with vanilla ice cream), but alas I had no room for dessert. There appears to be just one menu, which can make for a pricey lunch or a good-value dinner depending upon your selection ... but both my friend and I felt that the lunchtime splurge was without a doubt worth it.

Stopped into Blue Agave Grill for lunch. They served chips and salsa, the salsa was not very good. My husband had a green chili which was tasty. We both had tacos for lunch (avocado and chicken) and they were both pretty lack luster. The black beans that accompanied the tacos were excellent though.

The fish tacos are obviously the best type of taco you will ever put in your mouth. Seriously, I crave them. I've never tasted anything like them. Pair it with the sangria Margarita and we've got magic people. HOWEVER I am getting tired of the awkward interactions with the hostesses. Every time I go in, without fail, a group of three to five girls will look at me, fake smiles holding their lips stiff, and say NOTHING. Like, maybe greet your customers and ask how many? idk Were I a tad more insecure I would say it's intimidating, but instead I find it annoying and rude, and I'm usually pretty aggravated by the time I reach the table. Thank goodness for your fish tacos.

Maybe not the most authentic Mexican but definitely the most tastiest I have ever had!!!!!! Service was great and management was exceptional. I had the Signature Asada and their Sangria which was sooooo good. My girlfriend had the Steak Rojo which was a little too spicy for her but was delicious as well. I would definitely recommend The Blue Agave to anyone.

This place was GREAT! So one of my issues with Mexican food is that it's seemingly the same ingredients arranged differently...and usually fairly expensive! Blue Agave is creative and inventive with their foods and most definitely affordable. We started with the Black & White Nachos. Crab and lobster on crunchy chips with guacamole and crispy spinach. So interesting and super DELICIOUS! For an entree, I dined on the Chile Lime Chicken Tacos - and they were GREAT! Two tacos with a generous amount of chicken and fillings. Black beans and cilantro lime rice are served on the side so you can add what you want to your tacos. Brilliant. My friend got the Blue Corn Enchiladas and seemed to really enjoy his meal as well. And because it's often one of my favorite parts of Mexican dining, I'll say that their chips and salsa were very tasty. Centrally located, but kind of hard to find (College & Oak in the basement of the old US Mail building - white marble or limestone building) this place is just fab. I can't wait to go back and introduce this gem to others!

For starters, the chips are served warm and crispy. I like my chips with a little more salt, but that's what the salt shaker is for. They are yummy. But don't spoil your appetite, because there are plenty of great treats on the menu. I ordered the skirt steak sliders off the appetizer menu for my meal. Absolutely enough food for lunch. Skirt steak was tender and seasoned, served on a soft roll with carmelized onions and a slice of avocado. The onions were so sweet I didn't even need to use the bacon aioli, but it's there if you want it. My friend ordered the mango salsa fish tacos. Oh my word, they are delicious. The mango salsa had a kick so if you don't like spicy, probably not a good idea. However, I LOVED it. Fish was tender and the salsa was tasty but didn't overtake the fish. But then.... we ordered the toasted coconut blonde brownie. Hallelujah. This dessert melts in your mouth. It is served warm with vanilla ice cream on top and had caramel rum glaze which soaks through the brownie so it's a little crispy on the outside but soft, warm, and chewy in the middle. Toasted coconut and pecans everywhere. This dessert alone may be the reason I rated Blue Agave a 5 instead of 4. To top off this wonderful dining experience, our server Brooke was delightful, attentive, and fun. Can't top great service!

Our server Adam was the dog's tits (that's a good thing) and when we made our ridiculous requests, he obliged (with management's good blessing). Fine example: When we repeatedly requested to have permission to light something on fire he brought out an iron skillet, oil and a lighter and we danced around the fire like we were praising a pagan God. Thanks Adam!

Amazing!!! One of my new favorite restaurants. We have family visiting from out of state next month, and I definitely plan on bringing them here! This was our first time at Blue Agave. It was a Saturday night and were were seated quick and our food arrived even quicker. I definitely recommend the chorizo mango nachos. Sounded like an odd combo, but it was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. 5 hours later and I am still ranting about how delicious dinner was. Our waitress was super friendly as well.

Very disappointed in our dinner last night. We were rushed to order even though we said we were not in a hurry. We ordered some guacamole and then placed our order...5 minutes later our entree arrived. No lobster in the lobster enchilada, rice not warm and not special...actually nothing special. We really liked the first time we were here..it seemed fresh and unique..what happened Blue Agave?

Spent Mother's Day with my son and husband at Blue Agave. I was a huge fan of the Rio as I was there when it opened, but we decided to try something new. I have found a new favorite restaurant in Blue Agave. Food was creative and fun. Had a difficult time deciding between a few entres but the Top Shelf Enchalladas were wonderful. My son and husband had the ribeye and chili lime skirt steaks. Both loved their meals. The waitress was fun and very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. I over heard her talking about a tequila cream and had to give it a try for desset. Yummy! We'll be back!

Shrimp taco meh. Chili line steak tacos (off the menu recommended by our server) were goood! The guacamole is way over priced and the serving size is sad... However it is yummy but knowing how much you get for $10 I recommend you pass. The service was wonderful and our server was very friendly and informative. This is a good place for cocktails and chips and salsa

Love this place. The fish tacos are incredible and so are the cocktails. A nice place for lunch after a stroll through old town. We will be back!

It is consistently solid food. Love the location, service friendly and food is yummy. I think they might of changed their drinks style but all in all a solid choice. Everything is yummy!
